Activities Two or three days are needed to see the high points of the Denali area. Some people explore it for years and never see everything. While exploring Denali keep in mind the weather changes quite often from sunny, windy, rainy and back to sunny all in one day. An extra day in Denali may offer the best view of Mt. McKinley.
With so much to do in the area, you have come too far to miss any of the following. - Denali National Park
You will want to see both Mt. McKinley and the wildlife. The best way (and most affordable) is to ride the National Park shuttle bus into the park. We recommend riding to Fish Creek (Cost = $24.25, total ride time: 8 hours). Or ride in to Wonder Lake (Cost = $33.25, total ride time: 11 hours). For reservations call 1-800-622-7275. Because of the ever-changing weather, chances of seeing "The Mountain" are about 20%. Chances of seeing grizzly bears, moose, caribou and Dall sheep are higher. Seeing wolves, fox and additional wildlife will depend on luck! We suggest packing your own lunch and beverages as there are no concessions offered inside the park. Many local restaurants and delis offer box lunches to take into the park. On a day's notice they can make a packable lunch which can be stored in your hotel room refrigerator and taken into the park the following morning.
Other Daily Activities include:
Our friendly front desk staff can assist in booking local activities and adventures free of charge (excluding Denali National Park bus reservations).
- Mount McKinley is best viewed from the air. Even on a cloudy day, most of the 20,320 ft. Mt. McKinley is visible above the low lying cloud level. Flightseeing tours depart every other hour (weather permitting). If the weather is clear be prepared for an unequaled experience. Cost = $195 - $379. www.talkeetnaaero.com .
